I just read a very interesting article about teens and the tough job market. I tweeted the article and I added that is just as tough for people over 50 (me)! Teens and over 50's are certainly being squeezed out of the job market, there is no doubt about that. I had a stellar reputation on my job at a major department store. After several "we've decided to pursue other candidates" I came to the realization that I might have to create my own job! It didn't take me long to realize that I already had that job! Avon!

I have been selling Avon for over a year. As with any job the benefits increase with the amount of time you put into it. With Avon and mark, which is Avon's youth oriented line the start up fee is $20.00 to $25.00 and you get that back by taking an online class! I put minimal effort and get gas money or lunch money, more effort and you get bill money!

Avon & mark make award winning products, oh, btw you get a discount on products! You do have to pay for your catalogs that you give your customers (they can also shop the catalog from your web site) the price is so cheap that if you have several customers some of your money earned pays for the books! Avon is a serious business and is a Fortune 500 company. When you become an Avon/mark rep you get your own web site, you don't have to design it, it is up and running after you pay your fee. An Avon rep can sell mark and mark rep can sell Avon. You however can have only one web site, either Avon (me) or mark. I wish you could have both because mark has the trendiest coolest boutique web site!

I would love for people to check out Avon and see for yourself just how great Avon/mark is. Avon/mark is for men & women, boys & girls! Men seem to really shine it the business of recruiting. It is a bottom line get the money now business! You sell, the more you sell the greater your profit is, it is just that simple. So, instead of going from door to door filling out applications, hand out an Avon/mark (or both) catalog! Or, instead of sitting in front of your computer filling out applications online, work your Avon/mark web site.

I can show all of my interesting sites in one place in FF and subscribe to interesting people's feeds. I left FF for a while and discovered there is really nothing like it.

Well this past week I returned to FriendFeed and while it's not perfect (who is?), I really missed the conversations.

Then you may want to Ping your blog. I like Ping-o-Matic, Ping-O-Matic is a service to update different search engines that your blog has updated.

So, now you can count all the traffic that you received when you Pinged your blog!!

Yes, I was a make up snob. I worked in a high end department store for 34 years, so the very best and the very expensive was right there in front of me. I bought the best, I did not think anything of paying $14.00 plus for lipstick. Once I decided to try drug store lipstick...not for me, and to my way of thinking priced a little high also, no nothing like $14.00 and up, but high for not that great of quality merchandise.

I searched a long time to find a lipstick, that, stays on forever and has tons of gorgeous colors and when I found one, I really didn't mind paying $14.00 plus for.

In October of 2007 I retired from the high end department store. In 2009 I began selling Avon. Bottom line, Avon has great lipstick! I love the "Ultra Color Rich" and the "Pro to Go" they are fabulous! Best part, they retail for much less, than department store lipsticks. The price on the "Ultra Color Rich" right now is $8.00, of course it is always lower than that, Avon has a special now, with a any 2 for $5.99!! And a special on the"Pro To Go" also for $5.99 and in limited shades for $3.99!!

I just love Twitter, StumbleUpon, FriendFeed and Google Reader. I like FriendFeed more, but I LOVE Twitter more!? With FriendFeed you can have it where you can share many of you Social Media Sites with Twitter(You just need to configure your account) and what ever you share on Google Reader, StumbleUpon etc. shows up as a Tweet on Twitter!! Neat! I love it!

Now this is what I want Google Reader to do...When I click share after an article, please have it go to StumbleUpon also. Could that work? Does it already exist and I just don't know it? Or... is this something StumbleUpon would have to do?

Does anyone else think that would be neat?

CD Review: Greg Adams Hidden Agenda

I got the CD Hidden Agenda for Christmas ( I asked for it!) and it is absolutely fabulous! Every song is fantastic. Being a mobile DJ I wanted to add Hidden Agenda to my collection, however it was the Jazz lover in me that wanted it first.

If you are a Jazz lover you must have this CD. It was the cut Burma Road that first grabbed my attention, and then I heard Greg's Version of Sade's Smooth Operator, well then I knew that I had to have this CD. Check out the cut Renaissance, this would be perfect for a wedding.

You might want to snag this ASAP, Amazon.com keeps selling out. I had looked for Hidden Agenda for a long time and Amazon.com was out. Well it is back in!

Are You More Interesting On FriendFeed, Than Twitter?

I always felt that I was more interesting on FriendFeed than I was on Twitter. I just could not tear my self away from Twitter, it really is addicting!

I like what FriendFeed has to offer. At FriendFeed you can point all of your Social Media Sites to FriendFeed. You set up your profile at FriendFeed, then you can add your blog, Google Reader, StumbleUpon, Flickr, Digg, Facebook and about 35 plus sites. Meaning when you update your blog it shows on your FriendFeed page. Same goes when you publish a photo to Flickr, or Stumble or Digg a page, it shows on your FriendFeed page. Whenever you add any of your other Social Media Sites to your FriendFeed preferences it shows up on your FriendFeed page.

You can subscribe to other peoples feeds and they can subscribe to yours.

Something interesting you can do, if you really prefer FriendFeed, but find yourself liking Twitter better. Go to your FriendFeed account settings, to where it says:
Feed Publishing, then check the box next to where it says Post my FriendFeed entries on Twitter as "your Twitter user Name". That way when you share an item, picture, or what ever it automatically shows up on Twitter! I thought this was neat!

This is one Fab All in One Printer/Copier/Scanner/Fax. If you are in need of a Printer for yourself or your business, this is the Wireless All-In-One for you.

It has wireless capabilities if you want to go wireless, you don't have to be wireless, though. A Word of advice, be sure and save the USB Port cable/cord from your old printer, because an USB Port cable/cord does not come with the Lexmark x7550, which is a small price to pay for the best All-In-One available!

I take a lot of pictures and what is so neat is that all I have to do is insert my memory card in the slot in my Lexmark Printer and choose pictures, edit and print!!! You can do this without even turning on your computer. Of course you can print from your computer also.

Sirius XM Customer Service (Room for Improvement)

After reading an interesting article at Business Week: Sirius XM in Serious Bind I just had to Thank Mel for the opportunity to voice my opinion on this. Sirius & XM customer service STINKS! Did you hear me Mel, STINKS! Sirius XM Customer Service is unreal! I have both Sirius & XM and just recently pruchased a XM receiver,right in the middle of a rebate offer & from an authorized dealer, and guess what? I was denied my rebate!! Mel, I shouldn't have to tell YOU this but it is all about the customer & customer service.

At Sirius & XM customer service it is like they are reading from a manual and they refuse to think outside of that manual. You think you are calling the main place but you are not. On one rather lenghty call I talked to 2 people in Canada & 1 in South America!!!

This kind of reminds me of a story a preacher told many decades ago. Having lived in the southeast I was very familar with the signs that dotted the countryside that said "See Rock City" which is a beautiful attraction in Tenn. Now for the preacher's story: There was this gas station at the entrance to Rock City and people would ask this certain gas station attendant about Rock City, and he would say "Oh You don't want to see Rock City, it's just a bunch of rocks! So here you have signs all over the southeast asking people to See Rock City and you have this one fellow turning them away at the front door, so to speak! A valuable analogy about customer service, among other lessons.

Now back to my rebate. Mel, where is my rebate, I want my rebate!

I was watching the Martha Stewart Show Wed.9/17/08 and her show was about blogging. On her show she had these 2 women one from Portland OR and the other from Portland ME. 3191, A Year of Mornings began on January 1, 2007 as an almost daily photo conversation, in blog form, between two friends that live 3191 miles apart. It lasted the entire calendar year ending on December 31, 2007.

The blog is no longer online, their project has been transformed into a book:

I Stand Corrected!

Back in July I wrote the post Eureka I'm In The Mixx and I was singing the praises of Mixx, which is a social Networking and Bookmarking site. I kind of think of Mixx as a Digg type reader. I stated in the article that I just could not get into Google Reader, but maybe it was me and not Google Reader. Well it was me, all me!

Now I still enjoy Mixx, but I have rediscovered Google Reader and man o man!! You name it and there it is at Google Reader ready for you to subscribe to, and it was so easy. All you have to do is click feeds and then search for the feeds you want to subscribe to.

I have about 150 feeds I read every day. These feeds include 2 local news stations and a ton of my latest love, sites about Social Media. If you know the name of a site or blog you can just enter it and Google Reader will bring it up.

So thanks for letting me get that off my chest!

Social Media & The Church

I have always thought that Social Media and Church's would work well together.

Especially Twitter, what better way to keep in touch with the congregation? Any Church that joins Twitter should have protected updates, as opposed to public updates, the updates should be protected to insure the privacy of members. That said, just think how easy it would be to let the youth group know of a meeting or get together. If something is going on with a member what better way to let everyone in the congregation know.

On the Church's home Twitter page you could have a link to the Church's main web site, so visitor's could check out what time the Church meets and driving directions and more.

I think the possibilities are endless. Just think the preacher could have an inspirational Bible verse, prayer list or even prayer list update.

Just be sure the updates are protected, not to sound redundant, but protect those updates!

Hurricane Essential To Do's

Beside the all important Hurricane preparedness list, there are 2 very important things to remember.

Your Thermos(s)

Your Camera

Anyone that lives in Hurricane alley and loves coffee must have at least 3 Thermos'. When you see that you are going to be affected by the storm, start heating water for your thermos', at the same time start brewing coffee. Let the water heat your thermos as long as possible. Put brewed coffee in thermos' put your coffee mate, sugar, etc. in ziplock sandwich bags.

By doing this, after losing power you will have hot or at least very warm coffee. This will keep your coffee supply going until you have power.

You must have a camera! You need to capture just about everything.

Don't forget to look for that odd picture. I did not have my camera with me on a trip to a mall 3 days after Katrina and I lost out on an interesting & odd picture. There was this large army tank like vehicle patrolling the mall area! What an odd picture and I lost that moment.

Be safe and pray for the safety of all.

I have tried for so very long to like Google Reader and it just has not worked for me, maybe it's me. I have discovered Mixx it has replaced Google Reader for me. I get to pick the information that interests me. I can pick one subject or many subjects. Mixx brings me my info in an easy to read format, well... I just love it.

Having been in retail for 34 years, one thing I have noticed is that shoe vendors sometimes just give the same shoe another name the next season! Gladwell's The Tipping Point has quite a few interesting twists on the subject.
For example, Paul Revere was able to galvanize the forces of resistance so effectively in part because he was what Gladwell calls a "Connector": he knew just about everybody, particularly the revolutionary leaders in each of the towns that he rode through. But Revere "wasn't just the man with the biggest Rolodex in colonial Boston," he was also a "Maven" who gathered extensive information about the British. He knew what was going on and he knew exactly whom to tell. The phenomenon continues to this day--think of how often you've received information in an e-mail message that had been forwarded at least half a dozen times before reaching you.

BLOGGING FOR A LIVING

Sounds like a dream title I know, but with hard work you can make money by blogging. I was reading about one blogger that has several streams of income and one stream alone brings in $2,500.00!!! Notice I did not say it was easy. The formula for making money by blogging is easy, however it takes time and effort.

I have been following ProBlogger Darren Rowse for about a month, I can't believe I just found him! Matter of fact while preparing this blog I entered Problogger into Wiki and Darren's name came up! What a dream gig.

I have been blogging for years and I love it. I am not in Darren Rowse territory yet, but I keep blogging away and who knows!

I love books on blogging and one of the first books I read and still refer to is Buzz Marketing with Blogs For Dummies (For Dummies (Business & Personal Finance)) What you blog about is up to you, and according to the experts it should be something you love and are passionate about. One thing for sure research is key.

Things you should know or learn:

You probably already know you intended blogging subject(or you should).

You already have your blog, like Blogger which is one of the best, but there are more.

How to market and promote your blog.

How to add the money making revenues to your blog.

There are more, but for now that is a good starting point.

The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich is another book getting a lot of buzz in the blogging world. Reviews are mixed.

A note on MySpace, I have tried MySpace several times and just didn't make a go of it, about a month ago I tried again and it seems to be working this time. I think of MySpace as a free Web Site, a place where I can put my links. Something I noticed, I blogged on MySpace the other day and I had 10 times the page views as my other blogs!Something to think about! If you want to read about blogging on MySpace check out Plug Your Business! Marketing on MySpace, YouTube, blogs and podcasts and other Web 2.0 social networks I have not read it yet, but I definately want to. The reviews on this book are quite interesting and offer some great tips, see an example of people that need to blog themselves!
